Police Orders Arrest Of INEC Staff In Akwa Ibom

Just three days to the governorship and house of assembly elections, the Police in Akwa Ibom state have descended heavily on the staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) in the state.

The state commissioner of police, Ibrahim kaoje, is personally leading the onslaught in Nsit Ubium local government area of the state.

According to sources in the state, all INEC staff in local government area suspected to be the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, strongholds are marked down for arrest.

This has thrown the entire staff of INEC in the state into a panic mode.

It will be recalled that the All Progressives Congress party in the state have been in the forefront of an insidious campaign against the uncompromising state Resident Electoral Commission, Mr Mike Igini, calling for his redeployment from the state.

After the heavy defeat the APC suffered in the Presidential and National Assembly elections, especially the defeat of Senator Godswill Akpabio, the party has been at daggers drawn with the INEC staff in the state.

It would be recalled also that President Mohammdu Buhari, through the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, boasted yesterday that the APC is set to reclaim Akwa Ibom from the dominant PDP
