How Tinubu Failed In His Bid To Get His Choice Candidate Become CBN Governor

Just like it was in the case of Kemi Adeosun who became the Nigeria's Finance Minister position in 2015 against the wish of the National leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Services, FIRS, Mr Babatunde Fowler was also tipped to take the mantle of the leadership of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). But like in Adeosun case, Tinubu vs Amosun in 2015 where the Jagabon lost out.
Emefiele,           Tinubu
Tinubu was said to have recommended his favourite candidate, Fowler to President Muhammadu Buhari to takeover from Godwin Emefiele as the CBN but the battle of who has the president's heart also made him to witness another resistant, this time around it was Tinubu vs other cabals.

The Senate yesterday confirmed Dr. Godwin Emefiele as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria for a second term.

Emefiele had been screened by the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, on Wednesday during which he was grilled in issues affecting Nigeria’s economy.

The screening exercise came after the mandate given by President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, to the committee at the plenary on Tuesday. The committee was given one week to carry out the screening and report back to the Senate.

Emefiele, who was appointed as CBN Governor on June 2, 2014, is due to end his first term on June 2, this year.

President Muhammadu Buhari had last week written to the Senate requesting that Emefiele be confirmed as CBN Governor for a second term of five years.

The confirmation followed the adoption of the report by the committee on the nominee.

The committee, in their report, recommended that, “The nominee understands the diverse economy of the country and has displayed profound knowledge of the continuous existence of our economic stability.
Tinubu failure to get his annointed candidate clinched the coveted position was traced to the cabal running the presidency who saw him as a threat and a man who want to extend his domineering power. Another reason is Tinubu's ambition to become the party's presidential flag bearer for 2023.
